When we founded IITA in the UK in 2012, we had a clear vision: to attract, train with excellence and rigor, and retain the next generation of aviation professionals. Eleven years later, as we brought this mission to Portugal in 2022, we discovered something extraordinary – a country with immense talent and a genuine thirst to fly higher.
From Legacy to Leadership: The Portuguese Explorer DNA
Portugal has always been a nation of aviators, navigators, and explorers. The first aerial crossing of the South Atlantic , carried out in 1922 by Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral, exemplifies this DNA: from legacy to leadership, they took the precision of Portuguese navigation from the seas to the skies.
Today, this heritage manifests itself in a new frontier: modern aviation. The Portuguese aeronautical sector is not just a growing industry; it is a natural extension of our exploratory DNA, directed towards the skies.
The Revolution in Technical and Vocational Education
At IITA, we believe that the future of Portuguese aviation lies in the intersection of quality vocational training and the adoption of high standards of innovation. Our technical-professional courses (for young people aged 15 to 18), approved by the Ministry of Education, are already implemented in four schools with seven active classes, training the next generation of:
- Pilots and Flight Attendants
- Air Cargo and Logistics Specialists
- On-Call Traffic Support Technicians
- Aircraft Mechanics
This is not a traditional education. Through constant contact with industry, professional internships, and virtual reality tools, our students go directly into secure jobs with strong career progression in Portugal and abroad.
Professional Certifications: The Answer to Market Needs
For those already in the job market or seeking specialization, our professional certifications meet the real needs of the industry:
- Loadmaster
- Flight Operations Officers
- Cybersecurity in Aviation (with specializations for Pilots and Ground Staff)
- Job Ready Handling Operations
- Operational Network Management
We also develop customized programs in Aviation English , Recruitment Preparation, and Operational Leadership, because we know that aviation demands not only technical competence, but also attitude, communication, and leadership.
Strategic Partnerships: The Bridge to Industry
Our partnerships with organizations such as TAP , APPLA , HiFly , MESA , SAFEPORT , JIT Group , JTM Group , APAT , and DHL , among others, strengthen our commitment to excellence. These collaborations ensure that our students not only learn theory but also experience the operational reality of Portuguese aviation.
Vision 2030: Building the Future of Aviation
Looking ahead to 2030, our vision is ambitious: to create more pioneering programs, integrating cutting-edge technology such as advanced simulators, artificial intelligence, and augmented reality. We want Portugal to be recognized not only as a top tourist destination, but as a world-renowned hub for aeronautical education and training .
Your Future Takes Off Here
Portuguese aviation has all the conditions it needs to soar. We have the tradition, the innovation and, now, the specialized training to lead this sector.
At IITA, we don’t just train technicians – we train ambassadors for the Portuguese skies. Every professional who graduates from our classrooms carries with them the pride of representing Portuguese excellence in airports and airlines around the world.
