This course is designed for candidates seeking roles in aviation ground operations — including ground handling, cargo operations, airport security, and airport customer services. It is particularly suited to those who have relevant operational experience but have not previously encountered a structured aviation assessment centre, as well as professionals transitioning into aviation from adjacent sectors such as logistics, customer service, or security.
Aviation ground operations employers — from major ground handling organisations to airlines and cargo logistics companies — use structured, multi-stage assessment centres to evaluate candidates. While the exact format varies by organisation, you can typically expect competency-based interviews, role-play scenarios simulating operational situations, group exercises assessing teamwork and communication under pressure, and written or situational judgement tasks. This course prepares you for all of these assessment formats.
Prior aviation experience is beneficial but not a requirement. The course is equally valuable for professionals transitioning into aviation from other industries — such as logistics, hospitality, or security — who need to understand how their existing skills map to aviation-specific competencies, and how to present those skills effectively in a competitive selection process.
Aviation ground operations assessors typically evaluate a consistent set of behavioural competencies: teamwork and collaboration, communication under pressure, problem-solving in operational contexts, customer focus, safety awareness, and adaptability. This course teaches you how to identify strong examples of these competencies from your own experience and structure them in the way that assessors are trained to score.
Role plays and group exercises are common in ground operations assessment centres because they reveal how candidates actually behave in operational situations — not just how they describe themselves in an interview. IITA’s programme provides repeated, structured practice in realistic aviation-specific scenarios, with instructor feedback after each exercise. You will understand precisely what assessors are observing and scoring, which transforms these exercises from unpredictable to manageable.
Generic interview coaching is not calibrated to the aviation industry. IITA’s programme is built entirely around the specific competencies, scenarios, and scoring frameworks used in ground handling, cargo, and airport operations recruitment. Every exercise, coaching session, and piece of feedback is grounded in how aviation employers actually assess candidates — not a generalised version of what a corporate assessment centre might look like.
No preparation course can guarantee a job offer. The most common reason strong candidates fail aviation ground operations assessments, however, is not a lack of relevant experience — it is a lack of familiarity with how the process works and what is being assessed. This course addresses that gap directly, ensuring that your experience and capability are presented as effectively as possible at every stage.
Candidates who succeed in ground operations selection processes are positioned for roles with major ground handling organisations (including Menzies Aviation, Swissport, and Groundlink at airports across Portugal and Europe), the ground operations and customer services departments of commercial airlines, and global cargo logistics companies such as DHL Aviation, FedEx, and Cargolux operating at European freight hubs.
